The
Best Godzilla
Toys this year!
Sometimes,
a movie character comes along that will stay with people for a long
time. One such character was the creature “Godzilla”. First seen in
1954, the name comes from two Japanese words that mean gorilla and
whale. The appearance of Godzilla does change from one film to the
next, but the basic style of the monster has remained roughly the same.
It looks quite a bit like a dinosaur, with gray scales, a long tail and
dorsal fins. Except for some changes in the pitch of its voice,
Godzilla's roar has remained largely the same, too.
After the
1998 Godzilla film remake, a line of toys and cups were made for Taco
Bell, to promote the film. Even though there have been 28 films, and
various comic books that have included him, Godzilla toys are the most
popular items. After the release of one recent film, thousands of
Godzilla toys have been sold worldwide.
The king of monsters
in the minds of many, Godzilla toys have continued to remain popular,
even during long spells between feature films. Comic books and movies
only spike the attention this big guy demands. Youngsters collect the
action figures to play with, and young and old alike purchase them for
their collections. The films continue to display the allure that
Godzilla has in the imagination of young and old alike.
One of
the largest makers of Godzilla
toys is Bandai, although these days you
see many toys made by Banpresto, along with some other
manufacturers.
The
1968 Godzilla action figure made by Bandai recreates the way the
monster looked in times past. Some of the toys are not only great for
play, but also highly detailed. There are many three inch Godzilla
toys, and some are sold through vending machines. Online retailers also
offer the toys in sets, and individually.
The toy series made
for the Final Wars includes some figures that were based on the 2004
movie, and they were released in a timely manner, for the fiftieth
anniversary of the franchise Godzilla. If you don't know where to
purchase Godzilla toys, you can read G-FAN, which is a Godzilla
magazine. Plus, once a year they hold G-FEST, where you can find many
kinds of Godzilla toys and collectibles. In addition, general sci-fi,
anime or comic book conventions may also attract sellers with Godzilla
toys for sale.
Stores that sell anime and comic books, as well
as some Asian imports stores, may stock Godzilla toys, too. Anime
Jungle carries some, and they have stores in Japan and L.A.. Extreme
Collectibles is a store you can find online, with an entire section of
Godzilla toys and collectibles. You can also find Godzilla toys on
auction sites, and some of them may be very old.
Each time a
Godzilla movie comes out, people wonder whether the character will
retain his favor with fans, and he always seems to come through. Any
newer movies and comic books give sales of Godzilla toys a big boost.
The next movie, slated for release in 2012, will undoubtedly bring more
memorabilia to the shelves of stores, and eventually to children and
fans.
